Mamma I know some days you are struggling. Whether you are a new mom, a seasoned mom, a triplet mom, a single mom…any type of mom, you are a superhero and I ask that you give yourself some grace. Hmmm… “Giving yourself grace”… isn’t that an interesting thought? I took a course recently, and they kept saying that phrase. “Give yourself some grace.” The first thought that came to my mind. “Easy for her to say”! That sounds depressing and pessimistic I know, but it is true. I don’t know about you, but as a mom of two young children, business owner, and a single parent for half of the year, it can be a very difficult concept to wrap my head around!
So I thought to myself, what can I do? How can I help myself to do this and I wanted to share with you what I have learned.
- When the going gets tough, stop and take 3 deep breaths. So if your toddler is screaming at the top of his lungs in the frozen food section and that one old lady is giving you the evil eye…yes Mom, I want you to stop and take three deep breaths and give yourself grace.
- At then end of the day, when the dishes are not done and the laundry is not folded, I want you to go to bed. That’s right Mom, give yourself grace and leave them until tomorrow. Your mental and physical health are more important then your child getting the same cup and bowl every morning.
- If you are on the third nap of the day, and baby is just not going down in the crib, give yourself some grace and let them have a nap in a carrier or stroller. That’s right Mom, even a Sleep Coach is suggesting that.
- Write down 3 things at the end of the day that you are proud of that you did that day and then go to sleep. Yes Mom, enjoy that moment.
In the work that I do, I rarely find a Mom who is regularly patting herself on the back for a job well done. But I believe that it is high time that we do. Our job as Moms is unforgiving, and I believe that we are our own worst critic. So I ask that you, tonight, before you go to sleep to think about the last time your “gave yourself some grace.” If it has been awhile, try those tips tomorrow and remember that you are doing an amazing job.
